Version 4.5.4 is a very minor update that includes a new toggle in the excerpt block and a bug fix for posts using custom authors.

Features

Excerpt Block: New toggle in the core excerpt block to hide the block if the post doesn’t have a manual excerpt. It will be disabled by default, using the excerpt that is auto-generated by WordPress as a fallback (which is the default excerpt block behavior). You can find the toggle in the block sidebar settings in the “Advanced” section.

Note: this feature is intended to be used on post templates or in the query loop to dynamically hide the excerpt if there is not one explicitly provided. It would be redundant to enable this feature while using the excerpt block on a post, because if you want to hide the excerpt, you would just remove the block on the post.

Author Archives: Posts using a custom author will get filtered out in a WordPress user’s “author” archives. (i.e. example.wisc.edu/author/username)
